I just finished yet another "Newsboy Cap" (from Debbie Stoller's book) like this one in the wee hours of the morning. I'm sure tired, but it's worth it! It'll go great with a cabled outfit that I just bought (no, I didn't make it...the price was WAY too tempting to pass it up, and, it's instant gratification in wearing because it's already done!). This hat has become like a familiar friend, I've made it so much. It's really a cute and quick knit. One skein of Patons Classic Merino Wool is more than enough to make each hat--the fullest size the pattern lists as well as the brim. It's not as warm I'm sure as the 50% alpaca and 50% wool as the original pattern lists, but at around $5.00 per skein, I'm not complaining! They're starting to sell hats just like these everywhere for like $13.00+ (I've seen them at Old Navy, Target, and Claire's), and they're either 100% acrylic or mostly. Hey, I'll take a 100% merino wool hat for $5.00 over an 100% acrylic hat for $13.00 any day of the week!
New to Patons is their Classic Merino Wool Tweeds, which is 90% wool, 7% acrylic and 3% viscose. Everything is the same about it as the Classic Merino Wool with regards to the yarn specs gauge is 20 sts x 26 rows = 4"/10cm on US size 7 [4.5mm] in 3.5 oz. [100g] and 223 yds. [203m] skeins); not sure about the price per skein because I haven't checked that out yet. But I'm curious to see this yarn "in person" to see how it looks, and I just might have to make a few hats out of this too! Might make cute socks too, albeit they'd be a tad thick (not bad for wearing with some heavy boots on a cold day, though!).
I'll have to post a picture of it when I remember. Right now, I'm too tired to think about it and hope I can sneak a nap in at some point today to catch up on the sleep I lost finishing it. On to work on crocheting that afghan!
